Nice! You have also set me thinking about the part of the “staying in bed all day” set that does not intersect with “alone” or “with the one you love”. Would that include “someone you don’t exactly love”? “More than one person you love”? The imagination boggles ;-) I got introduced to your blog recently and love it. Keep up the great work!

Does my computer count as “the one I love”?

    • Sofa Spud says:

I hope not, people in this country are having enough trouble with gender associations in this scenario.

Could be a sign of depression, could also be a sign ‘oh my gods my bed is so comfy’

I believe Roert Heinlein said it best, in Friday:
“The scars and twisted tendons and the stumps of struck-off limbs, the aching pit of hunger and the throb of unset bone, my sanded, burning eyeballs as the light within them dims, add nothing to the torment of lying here, alone.”

Depression, or a bad head cold (the latter isn’t exactly elation, but allows for more entertainment via books/TV/Internet).

  9. John says:

If the “alone” + “with the one you love” circles were connected, you’d have narcissism.

It’s not often I disagree with your work but this is one. Spending a day in bed alone is depressing? You’re not doing it right!

Nothing onanistic – just the simple joy of relaxing and reading all day by yourself. It’s hard to beat and even better when the weather is cold and stormy :)

  13. Ashley says:

The three circles should all connect. Alone and With the one you love would be narcissism. Where they all intersect – masturbation.

  14. Rowan says:

Shouldn’t the happiness arrow be pointing into the entire circle labelled “with the one you love”?
