    Just correlation or causation? And if causation, which way? Or both?

    (I strongly suspect bidirectional causation with strong feedback, but that is just a conjecture.)

    wouldn’t parents opposed be on the x axis, considering that’s the independent variable?

    @Daniel: I don’t think so. I read this as, the more popular something is among teens–i.e. music, partying, or a certain individual–the more parents will disapprove.
