This looks like an inside joke. Here’s my guess. A project that you came up with got fully funded and some dillweed attached his project to yours with no extra funds. And they used a red stapler to physically attach it.

Or according to the headline you went through airport security and they took your stapler away.

  2. Jeff says:

I bet it is a reference to “Office Space”

  3. (x, why?) says:

Yeah…. over my head on this one.
So it looks like I have to wait until the evenings now to view these. My office blocks the new site. Go figger.

  4. wordydoodles says:

Here’s my attempt at this one:

If you’ve got initiative, you’ve got full-funding. If you’re frustrated, you’re just left with your stapler.

If you’ve got both frustration and initiative, but neither a stapler nor full funding, well– you’ve got yourself a side project.

    Maybe? :)

  5. bexster says:

    here’s my guess:
side projects are born when initiative finds ways around frustration. however, while you may have initiative in buckets, only a mere smidgeon of projects using it ever get funding, the rest just goes to waste. for the red stapler: dangerous weapon / project killer / tell it to the stapler?

  6. Hmmm... says:

wordydoodles and bexster are right to a large extent – but the red stapler? why red?

    red=angry, frustated
stapler = doing a job which does not require initiative. so an angry/ frustated user having no initiative doing a routine job? Hmmm…

  7. Big Scott says:

Red Stapler has to be, as Jeff suggested, a reference to the “Office Space” movie…

If you like mindless comedy, as I do, I recommend seeing it so you can get the joke.

  8. hmmm says:

Big Scott – you are correct! found this site: http://www.techcomedy.com/www.redswinglinestapler.com/quiz.php

    Will watch the movie…

I can attest staplers do make great weapons. My 10th grade Engish teacher Ms Read (really) was nuts, and totally lost it one day when a boy stood up to stretch during Silent Reading Time, which was pretty much all we did by 4 months into the year. The hurled stapler missed his head by 2 inches or so, and made a large dent in the wooden window frame behind him.

After that, we went en masse to the principal to make sure they knew she was Looney Tunes. They got rid of her by giving her a good reference, and basically sicced her on some other unsuspecting kids. I hope their reflexs were really good. Sigh.
