OOOOHHH… nice. Long time reader, just felt compelled to comment that this entry is particularly insightful. Reserve a spot in the next book for this one!

Absolutely stunning! Extremely well done. Brilliant job of relating things that have always been linked, but are often hard to put together.

  3. Iris says:

This one is so spot on!

  4. Anonymous says:

    Nice one.

  5. Anonymous says:

so are you saying Iraq is a shit-hole?

  6. Suzie says:

    Restrooms sometimes aren’t sanitized enough…

Funny as always, however I am finally forced to disagree a bit. I think the news, about Iraq or otherwise, is absolutely alarmist these days. Whether it’s Iraq or that same public restroom it is definitely going to kill you, at maximum volume with bright shiny graphics.

is mayberry a place? hehe. Just asking

I do love your blog. I just feel smarter reading it.

I like your deferent concept of represent this matter. Its really graet.

  11. Ros says:

Some of my restrooms at college were a complete mess. Unsanitary, toilet paper everywhere, not to mention the broken door locks.

So a lot like Iraq then!

  12. Joanna says:

If by “sanitized” you mean “once things started going well it fell off the radar for the nightly news,” then yeah, I guess that’s about right.

Thanks for the article Matt. It’s helpful to hear good news once in a while. Of course, that must mean it has been sanitized.

  14. Tim Clague says:

I wonder if Iraq has a little sign saying, “Hi, I’m George. I cleaned your country today. Have a nice day”

  15. Ryan says:

    Best. Indexed. Ever.

  16. Dan says:

I love this one but… isn’t it “mathematically incorrect?” Namely, “sanitized ‘for your protection'” is not the intersection of the three other sets; it’s a larger set of which the other three are all members. The diagram should show three non-intersecting circles all contained by the larger circle, “sanitized…”

(dodging the rotten tomatoes being thrown by readers angry at niggling criticism of creative sketch)

  17. Anonymous says:

Sorry, but this one makes no sense. As one reader pointed out, the intersection really isn’t, and the social commentary on Iraq is inaccurate as well.

As someone who has visited multiple areas of Iraq, both as a soldier and as a photojournalist, I can say that the news from Iraq isn’t sanitized: it’s ignored, as your June 5th panel deftly points out.
